“我是军人，蝎子。”林锐尽量让自己的声音平缓。
阮文雄知道他的这句话意味着什么，沉默。
“你偷袭我们的船，杀了我们的船员，绑架了他们，带到了这个岛……”林锐缓缓地说，“你们还杀了海军陆战队的不少官兵，还杀了我的部下……你告诉我，你让我怎么放过你和你的部下？就算我不追究，我的部下能允许吗？我的军队能允许吗？我的国家能允许吗？”
阮文雄平静地看着林锐：“既然这样，我们没什么好说的了。”
“人质呢？”林锐问，“人质你们不交给我带走吗？”
阮文雄凄惨地笑了一下：“你果然很聪明，了解我都想些什么……我们是雇佣兵，不是恐怖分子……Simon，给他人质。”
Simon勉强地站起来，推着女人走过来，推到林锐怀里：“这是你的人，上尉。”
林锐抱着这个女人，看着阮文雄：“你还有什么要说的吗？”
“没有了，林锐。”阮文雄笑笑，“你们出去吧，我和我的部下要单独待着。”
林锐的心里有些发酸：“我给你们一个小时的时间考虑……要不要出去投降。我保证你们会受到公正的待遇，并且会得到中国法庭公正的审判。如果你们选择不，一个小时以后，海军陆战队会打进来，你们全部都会完蛋。”
“你觉得可能吗？”阮文雄说，“我们是雇佣兵，林锐。我们不受到任何公约的保护，即便你们给我们公正审判……一个雇佣兵，会去上法庭吗？我们生来就是打仗的，替谁打仗都一样。今天，我们走到了生命的尽头。我们也会用战斗的方式来告别我们的生命，这是我们早就做好的选择。你走吧，林锐。”
林锐看看他们，转身带着女人往外走。
“林锐，难道临走也不给我敬个军礼吗？”阮文雄高声问。
林锐回头：“对不起，蝎子……我是军人，你不是。”
阮文雄的心被什么刺了一下，苦笑点点头：“再见，林锐。”
“再见。”
林锐抱起来女人，大步走向外面。教堂的门打开，外面的探照灯打亮了他的身影。他大步走出去，走过如临大敌的海军陆战队员，把女人交给卫生兵：“用直升机尽快送她到医院船上。”
陈勇看着他出来，并不意外：“谈完了？”
“完了。”林锐说。
教堂的门从里面关上了。
“没我们的事儿了……”陈勇说，“海军陆战队会接手的，我们走吧。”
林锐回头看着教堂：“我想等到战斗结束以后。”
“为什么？你想看着他们被歼灭吗？”
“这是我对他们的尊重。”林锐说，“对敌人最好的尊重，莫过于亲手打死他们；如果不能，我就亲眼看着他们战死。”
教堂里面，雇佣兵们在检查最后的弹药。Simon看着大家，笑：“别那么灰心丧气，我们还有的是仗要打呢！”
Alex看着十字架上的耶稣，颔首祈祷。
“做个祈祷吧。”阮文雄起身，“让我们的灵魂得到宽恕。”
雇佣兵们起身，跪在上帝面前，默默祈祷。
“我们是不是该说说悼词？”Alex抬头问。
“谁会这个？”Simon问，“我是记不住了。”
雇佣兵们左右看看，都是杀人的材料，谁会悼词？谁以前也没干过牧师。Simon笑笑：“那我们就来个战士的悼词——Brown喜欢唱的《血流成河》，你们都会吧？”
阮文雄苦笑，这个大家倒是都会。
“来吧，兄弟们！让我们为自己祈祷吧！”他开始唱起来。前面是独唱：
“He　was　just　a　rookie　trooper　and　he　surely　shook　with　fright。　
He　checked　off　his　equipment　and　made　sure　his　pack　was　tight。　
He　had　to　sit　and　listen　to　those　awful　engines　roar。　

血污满身的雇佣兵们张开嘴，开始声音嘶哑地合唱：

He　ain’t　gonna　jump　no　more。　”
歌声当中，Simon露出笑容，他提高了声调，声音也变得洪亮：
“‘Is　everybody　happy？’cried　the　sergeant　looking　up。　
Our　hero　feebly　answered，　‘Yes’，　and　then　they　stood　him　up。　
He　jumped　into　the　icy　blast，　his　static　line　unhooked。　
And　he　ain’t　gonna　jump　no　more。　”
雇佣兵的声音也逐渐不再嘶哑，提高了声调：
“Gory，　gory，　what　a　hell　of　way　to　die。　

歌声传出来，陆军特种兵和海军陆战队员们默默地听着。他们都没想到，这些陷入绝境的雇佣兵会唱歌。虽然大多数听不懂，但是都知道这是部队行军歌曲。个别了解美军的干部听出来，这是美军王牌部队101空中突击师的士兵歌曲，这是著名的《血流成河》。
“他们不会投降的……”林锐淡淡地说。
“我们去准备。”海军陆战队营长转身走了。
歌声当中，海军陆战队员们默默收拾自己的武器，甩掉背囊。
教堂里面，Simon和他的兄弟们还在放声歌唱：

He　felt　the　wind，　he　felt　the　cold，　he　felt　the　awful　drop。　
The　silk　from　his　reserve　spilled　out　and　wrapped　around　his　legs。　

阮文雄跟着他们一起唱着合唱部分：

Simon好似忘却了身上的伤痛，忘情地歌唱：

Suspension　lines　were　tied　in　knots　around　his　skinny　bones。　
The　canopy　became　his　shroud，　he　hurtled　to　the　ground。　

雇佣兵们也变得高昂起来：

外面，林锐看着漆黑的教堂：“给他们祈祷的时间吧。”
“你说过给他们一个小时，我们给足他们。”海军陆战队营长说，“他们没有难为人质，我们也给他们足够的尊重。”
林锐点点头，目光炯炯看着漆黑的教堂。
歌声还在传出来：

He　thought　about　the　medicos　and　wondered　what　they’d　find。　

The　ambulance　was　on　the　spot，　the　jeeps　were　running　wild。　
The　medics　jumped　and　screamed　with　glee，　rolled　up　their　sleeves　and　smiled。　
For　it　had　been　a　week　or　more　since　last　a　’chute　had　failed。　
